Warrior of the Week: Joey Harrison

This week’s Forged WARRIOR of the Week is the tiny but MIGHTY, Joey Harrison.joey1

This kid has been putting in the work for well over a year now and is HUNGRY for a state wrestling championship title.

The whole off season has been nothing but committed hard work and effort and it’s been showing through.

Just a few weeks back, Joey was rated as the #14 Ranked 106 lbs High School wrestler in the Nation by FloWrestling.

While we know there’s a LOT of great wrestlers in Nebraska (a LOT of them putting in hard work right in our gym), Joey was the only Nebraska grappler to get rated.

However, pre-season rankings are just that…

The only way to truly PROVE you’re the best is to get it done on the mat in real time.

And we’re looking forward to watching Joey (as well as all of our Forged wrestlers) DOMINATE the mat this wrestling season.

To get to know Joe a bit better, we caught up with him for a quick interview.

Check it out…

Joey, first things first, if you could have a flying billboard behind the goodyear blimp, what would you have it say and WHY?

State Champ

What have you loved about Forged thus far?

How it’s gotten me stronger than mostly all my opponents and meeting new friends.

What do you do to stay so consistent with the gym and your training?

Just think about how I need to stay strong for wrestling season.

What does training mean to you besides all of the benefits it’ll give you on the mat as a wrestler?

I like to stay in shape because it makes everything else easier in life and plus you look better lol.

You’ve made some HUGE gains inside Forged since you first began, can you share a bit about where you were when you started and where you’ve gotten yourself up to now?

I started off doing dead lifts really light, like only 95 lbs. Now I’m at 2 plates on each side with ease. #ham

Everyone’s 1st day inside Forged is a bit “humbling”…  Can you share with us YOUR experience from your first day within Forged?

The first day will always be the hardest. I wasn’t expecting it to be that hard, I was only 14  yrs. old and 90#, a little intimidating!!

Thinking about YOUR “Big Picture”,  what are your overall goals that you want to achieve.  I know you got GOLD on your sites this year for High School Wrestling, but what else?

I hope to win two state titles to get a scholarship to college and earn a degree in whatever I decide to do.

What gets you PSYCHED up the most?  What drives you and gets you going to push things to the limit?

My drive is to not lose. I believe I should win almost all my matches. With me going to practice and training at Forged, I hope to be in better shape than all my opponents.

You always seem so “chill” but what’s truly going on inside your mind when you’re training?  What’s going on up there?

Just to not think about anything else besides training. I want to get better so I push myself to be the best.

Some quick hitters…

Favorite Movie Character and Why?

Megan Fox because she’s hot.

Favorite song that you’d want on to help crush a workout OR get ready for a BIG match?

Kevin Gates: I don’t get tired. It talks about he never a gets tired and is always achieving in life.

Whats you FAVORITE meal to eat (when you’re NOT cutting weight that is)

Spaghetti because it just tastes the best to me.

Your FAVORITE EXERCISE in the gym is?

Pull Ups

LEAST Favorite EXERCISE in the gym?

Squats. Has my legs sore and I have to walk around at school the next day.

FINALLY…  If there was one piece of advice you could give someone else for more success with their training or performance as an athlete, what would it be?

Train to be the best in everything. You should always was to succeed, so push yourself no matter how it gets at times. There is good days and bad days.
